Per-haps next year?

It’s been a little while since I’ve checked in on the European and Swedish rallycross championships to see how Swedish ace Per Eklund was getting on in his 9-3 Sport Sedan.

Checking out Mike Jager’s page, it seems that this first year with the Sport Sedan might be one of those ‘getting to know you’ years. Per’s in line to take out 2nd place in the Swedish Championship and he’s currently running 6th in the European Championship, thought he’s only 20 points off third place.

I tried to email Per earlier this year but unfortunately I did not receive a reply. Now that the season’s winding down rather than ramping up, I might try again.

Mike’s got heaps of photos and car history, as well as a quick write up of all the races that Per’s competed in this year. Click here to visit the Per Eklund fan page.

  1. Saab should offer a rally version of the 9-3. I bet that would sell a lot. I’m aware of the 9-3 Aero, but I don’t think it has the same prestige as a BMW M3 or Audi S4.

  2. That would be cool, like a latter-day Viggen or a WRX or Lancer Evo IX WRC. It would probably not sell in large numbers but imagine the prestige effect it would bring (back) to Saab in terms of its rally heritage.

  3. Without a doubt this is one of the things Saab should be pushing forward and making available in their line up. Not just the 9-3 but the 9-5 as well. 4 wheel drive, flat out sports models to sit bang at the top of the range and add something special to the rest of the model range. It works superbly with Audi and their S series and the M badge on a BMW is worth many sales to their everyday models. The same is true of Mercedes and AMG. Surely within GM most of the requisite parts are there which would reduce development costs. A 4 wheel drive 300 bhp version of my 9-5 Estate? I’d like to see that:>)I see no reason why it wouldn’t sell either.

  4. It would sell like hotcakes, and they could finally take off the limiters when it came to engine building and tuning as well.

By the way Paul – your comment was comment no 1000 here at Trollhattan!! Woohoo!
