It was good to hear of another Saab Motorsport team – JL Racing in Canada.
I’ll be keeping a big eye on this one as Canada’s my wife’s home and native land and therefore holds a special place in the heart of our family.
Following is the press release from JL and Saab Canada:
The Saab Canada team is very proud to announce its partnership with JL Racing, bringing Saabs into competitive racing in Canada. The JL team, working in close cooperation with Saab Canada and product experts in Sweden, will take the fundamental sport heritage of the Saab 9-3 to entirely new levels.
The JL team will campaign a pair of Saab 9-3 Sedans in the Canadian Automobile Sport Clubs (CASC) Ontario Touring Car GT Series, competing in the Touring 1 Class of the series. The first 9-3 will run the entire series, with JL Racing building the second 9-3 race car based on the results of data collected from campaigning the first car.
The Saab 9-3 used by JL Racing utilizes a state of the art 2.0 liter turbo engine with a 5-speed transmission, independent suspension, and front wheel drive which is expected to be well-suited for the T1 Class.
“We are thrilled to be associated with such a professional and highly competitive team as JL Racing, and eagerly look forward to building future success and excitement on the track with Saab 9-3. We share JL Racing’s belief that the basic construction of the Saab 9-3 has been engineered with the fundamental underpinnings necessary to be competitive and hope that many people come out and support the team.” said Magnus Hansson, Manager Saab Canada.
Now, Saab enthusiasts who understand the heart of our brand can come out and see our sporting DNA on the track, courtesy of the JL Racing professionals.
From the schedule on their site, it looks like they might have had an event on over this past weekend. I’ll try and find out the results and post them here.
Always room for more MotorSport. Good luck JL Racing!
