I’ve been watching this one for a while now as my car fits the bill and I’m actually going to take the plunge and buy a 30GB iPod today – part of my spring “get fitter” campaign, which also involves getting a dog.
The old Trollpod website has been superseded by the formation of a new business, Granite Embedded Systems (GES). It’s still the same people involved, just more serious and organised.
The schedule has stalled once or twice, which is not uncommon with these new developments, but the latest news on the site tells us that production is due to start next week, on September 18.
The Audiotroll is a device that gives 1998-2002 Saab 9-3 owners and 1998-2005 Saab 9-5 owners the chance to fully integrate their iPod into their car’s audio system. Controls will be accessible via your steering wheel controls and iPod information will be displayed on your Saab Information Display.
It’ll also allow for the connection of other audio devices, though I understand the control and display functions will not work – it’s basically just an audio pass-through for these non-iPod devices.
The website claims easy installation in minutes.
This is a truly promising unit.
Orders for the AudioTroll are being taken at the introductory price of US$149 (plus freight) until September 15, after which they’ll revert to the full price of US$179 (plus freight).
I’ve emailed Carl at GES to try and get some more details to publish here, though it’s understandable if he’s a bit busy right at this point of time.
