No White Christmas

This is almost SOTW territory as the photo was taken in a Saab and there’s a Saab 9-5 in it. But it was sent to me by Tim R just as a beautiful shot of a sunrise in Sweden, on the road from Trollhattan to Gothenburg.

Sweden’s actually having it’s warmest winter in years, and as you can see there’s going to be little chance of a white Christmas this year. The Local reports that:

The Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute, SMHI, has forecast temperatures of up to 8 degrees for Stockholm and 10 degrees for far south of the country of Sweden on Christmas Eve.

The little snow that fell in the Stockholm area on Tuesday has nearly all melted and the last chance for snow before Christmas will be tonight.

Anyway, enjoy the pic.

  1. Having my (late) breakfast, and saw the nice picture. And I just thought of something…

Right now, at this very moment, people in Rüsselheim and in Trollhättan are working with new Saab models. They are working with computer animations, clay models, cockpit mockups. Damn! I can’t wait. I want photos now! 🙂

  2. So Sweden’s unseasonably warm and Denver, Colorado (U.S.A.) is completely shut down due to the worst winter snow storm in years.

I would hope that the engineers in Trollhattan get a chance to watch “An Inconvenient Truth” translated into Swedish. Maybe future SAABs will be even cleaner-running (at least as far as CO2 emissions are concerned)!

This is not a political statement (don’t mistake it as so just because the film is presented by former American Vice President Al Gore), but if you haven’t yet seen this documentary do yourself a favor and catch it on DVD (if you live in the U.S. – I don’t know what the international release schedule looks like).

Don’t let Al Gore turn you off if you’re not a Gore fan. I’m not particularly fond of him either, but he put on a great presentation and it was entertaining (though the subject material was scary…).

  3. I was speaking, on the telephone, with a colleague of mine in Goteborg, today. She was telling me how mild it is out there at the moment. It is about 5 or 6 degC warmer over there than it is in the UK at the moment!!
