Can you help?

This is not something I’d normally do on these pages, but….

Some of you who frequent Saabnet and The Saab Link may know of a young guy there by the name of DrewzAirflowSE. His real name is Drew Golub and he wrote to me this morning with some bad news.

Last week, Drew’s father passed away unexpectedly at the young age of 50. Drew appears to be in his late teens. I related to this pretty strongly as my Dad passed away at age 52 back when I was just 15.

Drew’s Dad introduced him to Saabs and they shared a love for them. In this time of sadness, Drew’s looking to his project car as something he can do as a memorial to the experiences he and his Dad shared.

Drew’s appealing to anyone who may be able to help him out in completing the car. His goal is complete the car prior to the Saab Owner’s Convention this August.

He’s set up a memorial page here, which tells you his story. I’m sure he’d gratefully appreciate any offers of parts, labour or expert advice as he tries to complete the car in time.

If I may be allowed an Oprah moment:

For what it’s worth, I wouldn’t tie myself to the goal of SOC. It’s quite immediate and from experience I’d say the last thing you need right now is more pressure, even if it’s self-induced and for a worthwhile cause. I’d go to SOC and try to enjoy it just like he’d have wanted.

I’d aim to do the car right, rather than quickly, and end up with a result that befits the intended purpose.

My condolences, and I wish you well.

  1. Condolences. And, of course, Steven and Greg are right. The SOC is a quick turn even if someone works full time. Asking someone for a favor, then pushing the limits — you’re setting yourself up for disappointment.

  2. Swade’s advice is good advice. The spreadsheet shows a lot of work to do.
Does anyone know an approximate location?

  3. Hey guys thanks for the advice. I know this might sound odd but working on my car helps me with how I feel about what has happened. I am in Solon Ohio.
