More 9-3 mumblings

On top of the far and wide [possible] sightings of the 9-3 reported earlier, we’ve now also received two separate notifications of some info that I’d guess has been released to delaers today – one via email and the other in comments.

For those of you who don’t read through all the comments (why not?) I’ve reproduced it below.

Most of it is known, but it’s good to get some confirmation, especially of the diesel output, which I think is going to prove very popular.

9-3 the program for -08 (sweden)

9-3 Engine 2,0t and 2,0T won´t be available. The replacement will be 2.0 biopower 175hp, 300Nm.

9-3 Aero will have 255hp, 400Nm

Diesel 1,9TTid 180hp, 400Nm.

New materials for seats, new rims, and new colours. Xenonlights will follow the road

XWD from 08/09 and it will be optional for all models…

more news is supposed to come

  1. Finnish car magazine Autobild wrote about unofficial information from Saab saying that XWD Aero will get 290bhp 2,8v6t just like Vauxhall/Opel Vectra/Saturn performance models.

180hp/400Nm diesel sounds very good. Combined with good 6spd automatic transmission I guess will be a big hit in Europe. But the question remains, will it be available with autobox (with same output)? Considering that Hirsch tuned units are restricted to 350Nm vs 370Nm w/ manual tranny.

Also turning Xenons sounds promising. Hopefully they will be as powerfull as existing lights which are definitely the best I´ve ever driven.

  2. Since the tax for vehicles changed this year, to drop the lower power (LPT) version engines makes Saabs much more difficult to sell in Hungary, however, our country is a strong base in Central-Europe, as far as I know.
Until the end of last year the calculation of the vehicle tax based on the weight, it’s changed to power-based calculation. My tax have risen 4 times higher in this year.

  3. It just occured to me that, if the upgraded Aero (ie: 290bhp) trim for the SS/SC/CVT get the XWD, Saab might as well call that trim “AERO X” 😀

  4. Regarding the specs for petrol and E85v engines it is the following.. (NOT AS SWADE WAS INFORMED) 1,8i I-4 140hp, 1,8t I-4 BioPower 175hp (Using E85 otherwise 150hp)2,0t I-4 BioPower 210hp(Using E85 otherwise 175hp)Aero 2,8 V6 Petrol 255hp and Diesel 1,9 Commonrail turbo 180hp.

Oh.. And XWD will be avalible for every model and high-end engines.

  6. ok — this is a rather random question. i am looking at an 07 9-3 and have a pretty good deal on the table but i think i may at least hold off until the offical unveiling of the 08 to compare. my question is, traditionally, how much time passes between the introduction of the new model and the beginning of some sort of deal incentives (ex. 1500 cashback)?

any help is appreciated — i am new to saab, but i must say that i am liking what i am seeing!
