Another happy customer…

I’m posting this one as a follow-up as Ted S had been contemplating this one for a little while and eventually took the plunge after obtaining some pricing information from another visitor here. Nevitz had recently purchased a 9-3 SportCombi and done a fair bit of research, which he passed on to Ted prior to the final purchase decision.

Ted’s SportCombi finally arrived this week and if you’ve been reading all the comments, he’s currently biding his time until the run-in period is finished.

The owner’s manual also says no wide open throttle or running the engine over 5000rpm for the first 1800 miles of driving – that is killing me for the record.

Ted’s an automotive prof at Cuyahoga Community College and a GM World Class Technician, so it’s fair to say he knows his stuff. I read his purchase of the SportCombi has a pretty darn good endorsement, myself, and the fact that he seems to be over the moon about getting hold of it puts a smile on my dial.

Congratulations on the new arrival, Ted!

Here’s a pic. As you can see, Ted’s wasting little time in finding out what makes the Combi tick.

  1. I too live not far away, Chardon (not related to Raj). Maybe I should take some night classes…
Don’t look now, but the world may gave turned upside down or something. Most all of the comments on Autoblog are positive!

  2. Ted, I noticed that too. I went into the comments section all ready for a fight and everyone was loving it instead of bashing it. It was awesome.

  3. Wow – my new car made the front page overnight.

We (the automotive department at Tri-C) are having an open house this Tuesday, July 31st from 4:30 to 7:30pm to allow people to tour the facility, ask questions about our programs and sign up for fall classes – so stop in if you would like to.

I am teaching an engine class this fall and if you are hoping that I have a fully dressed turbocharged 2.8L V6 out of a 9-3 on a stand to use a demonstration unit, you would not be disappointed…

It will be SAAB 101 for my students.

  4. Killer! Ted, looks like you picked from the same color palette as I. You got the Aero, makes you more of a man than I. (smiles) But the 60th Anniversary I got on my 2.0T was consolation enough for the lack of power in mine, and I’m not to ashamed of that.

I am ashamed of myself, however, that I’ve still yet to take pics of my babe, she’s in need of a miracle bath. I’ve been driving her so much that I’ve not had the time for a photo op! (Or so I’d like to think, work is a bother, isn’t it?)

Funny, when I bought my 9-2x, being my first new car I didn’t realize or stick to my ‘break in’ much. When I got the Combi I saw the RPM limit was 5000. The break in was much smoother, as it was nearly difficult to rev that high! I had enough power delivered up to 3000-3500 RPM that I didn’t have the need to punch it. I’ve grown a new appreciation for the mid-range power of Saab’s, as it let’s you not depend on the wastefulness of overworking the motor on a constant basis, although that is fun on occasion! 🙂

Much congrats, Ted! Have you heard her turbo whistle yet? Quite soothing! 🙂

  5. Hey Nevitz –

Thanks again for that price sheet – it was a big help when making me decision.

I have already gotten plenty of compliments on the color scheme – it is a good color for that car. I took a few more pics of it today as the sun finally came out here in Cleveland – nice to drive the car around in the sun.

The car is going to Garden City Beach in South Carolina next week for vacation, so it should make it through its break-in period on that trip. Lots of highway driving, so the engine will be under a steady load the entire time. Probably will be better for it than stop and go city driving.

I have heard the Turbo – and it does sound sweet.

And I LOVE the exhaust note on the Aero. It sounds great at idle, and is perfectly tuned through the RPM band. Very nice!

  6. I too have ordered a 9-3 SportCombi in Diesel Sport form, but with Same colour exterior and leather. I ordered it on the 30th of March (just in time for the $3,000 free fuel) but it still hasn’t arrived!. Over 4 months and I still haven’t got it! (Although the dealer said it will be ready at the end of this week/early next week!)
