Rich HDR Viggen

Richo’s been experimenting with HDR photography again.

HDR stands for High Dynamic Range and put (very) simply, it combines several photos of the one object taken at different exposures. The end result can often be quite stunning, especially with high-contrast landscapes etc.

Here’s the latest HDR efforts from Sydney, with Richo’s Viggen shining like a diamond. I’d suggest that these haven’t quite arrived yet, but they’re definitely getting there.

  1. Ivan I don’t know what you’re talking about, my car looks like that every day!!! 🙂

It was my first real atempt at 1030 on Sat night with my laptop on the floor or a car park. I will attempt better next time, I promise.

  2. What software do you use to accomplish this. I know you take a bracketed exposure to capture different light levels, but how do you then combine the photos?

  3. Richo, your Viggen is stunning, however the photos leave a little bit strange “unnatural” impression in me… maybe it’s only a question of taste… 🙂

  4. Richo,
Forget the ‘artificial’ and ‘unnatural’ comments; WOW.
The photography just enhances and shows off the beauty of your car on that night.
    Great job.

  5. hahaaha!! Next will be the anniversary convertible.

Ivan, my comments above were tongue in cheek. I suppose thats the thing about HDR is you can play with that whole “painted” looks and dull it down etc, but it just looked to *hit hot to do that.

These pics are 6 or 7 shots put together in photoshop HDR. Make sure you’re using 32 bit tiffs, then once you have your HDR image, reduce them to 16 bit. At tht point, during the conversion use Local Settings and you’ll see the image using the threshold will look like candy. Save that then apply levels and some colour tone filters to achieve the desired result.

  6. The splendid car aside, Richo has the capacity to ” leave a little bit strange “unnatural” impression ” in all of us from time to time……

Richo – its art & its good. Reality should not get involved.
