Saab USA are sponsoring a modelling TV show in the US and as well has having a bit of a leer, you could also win yourself a Convertible.

Viewers who vote for one of these models have a chance at winning a 2008 Saab 9-3 Convertible in 2.0T guise, though the girls in the picture above are posing on a 2007 model. I couldn’t help but grin at the caption in the top right corner.

The show, called A Model Life, is on TLC every Friday at 10pm.

  1. OK, so what’s bad about this? I’ll tell you what — I’m to the age where all of these girls are way too young for me.

    Of course, the Australian chick is the choice (apparently others agree since she’s the current favorite of the week), but she’s followed closely by the woman from Slovakia.

    The US and UK entries aren’t our best.

    Is Saab USA trying to remove themselves from the gaydar, perhaps?

  2. ctm: I agree that these girls are a little on the thin side, but I think that it’s mostly because they’re too young. I personally like a more full-figured shape, yes.

  3. funny indeed although this ad move isn’t such a bad idea.
    I would love to have a ride in that 9-3 convertible with Petra Nemcova included. that’s for sure.

  4. Maybe it’s different in the U.S., but in Sweden (and I think other part of Europe as well) company try to stay away from that business. There is the whole debate about what kind of ideal they set for young girsl. Also, the death of some models due to starvation got a lot of publicity last year, and I feel there has been a turning point in peoples attitude to the whole model business. Even clothing companies stay away from them when advertising. I surely hope that Saab in Europe stay away from it, because it could get them some real bad press over here…

    I think Saab should decide what they want to do with the sponsor image. Should the go with cultural events (art exhibition’s…), sporting events (extreme sports like they do with Salomon…) or something else (like fashion…)? All three at the same time is not a good idea in my opinion.

  5. well, I think it’s part of making Saab stand out as a premium brand in the US. They need a more, let us say, posh identity so they sponsor a silly Tv show. I’m sure the marketing effect in this case won’t be overwhelming.
    It’s just plain difficult the polish a brand identity. Here in Belgium Saab has an individualist and scandinavian design identity but once I was at an art exhibition sponsered by Saab and they positioned a miserable static 9-7 at the entrance (without anybody around to promote), why didn’t they put a nice looking model in a 9-3 convertible instead at the entrance still bothers me šŸ˜‰

  7. Here in the U.S. this is a big boost for Saab as there is virtually no advertising at all. I was actually shocked to see such a big promotion through TLC.
