  2. Sigh. I really don’t understand why Saab USA insists having their own “Born from Jets” slogan and all.

    Yesterday in an extreme ADD moment, I spent a good while on YouTube watching Saab commercials and the Euro ones, destroy the US Born from Jets crap. The “move your mind” is such a stronger tagline that actually means something and represents Saab.

    If only we had Biopower, it would be nice to have the Release Me commercial w/ Oh Laura (who I have really taken a liking to) and this latest one featuring the new MY08 9-3 and the singer Nina Kinert.

    They are different from the typical car commercial in USA and I think it would catch peoples attention.

    Also, Saabs are suppose to be green. Jets are not. Lets not make that connection.

  4. Eggs & Swade (reminds me of steak & eggs):
    Been lurking, but a little tied up with work, a month premature alpaca, and helping my dad having skin cancer surgery (seems a-okay now at 97 years). I suppose it’s in my genes that I’ll live a long time too, and I’ll be fighting to the very end to keep anyone from taking the Saab keys out of my hand—they might have to bury me with them. 🙂

  5. Maybe we can start our own US campaign: “Dump the Jets!!!” (with apologies to the NY Jets.) The metaphors are getting so tired, lame, old, laughable (you pick).

    I did notice on the most excellent scans that the hands-free phone buttons are still on the steering wheel, exactly the same as the 2006 & 2007 steering wheel, but again no mention of bluetooth. (BTW I have no use for OnStar, hope you can get an ’09 without it.)

    @TedY: I’ve got them electronically before (fall 2005), I think you have to sign up for them and they email them to you(??) or they are part of the Saab-i emails? Can’t remember now.

  6. I noticed myself that downloadable brochures are available on many other country websites. I like those myself, it’s nice to be able to save for later and browse when you’re not online. But still nothing is better than the printed product. The layout, the feel of the paper, the smell of printing inks, endless hours and dreaming of looking at pictures and so on. About 10 years ago, I used to work for a pre-press business that handled all the work for the Campbell Ewald and McCann Erickson advertising agencies. They have (had) the accounts for Chevrolet, GMC, Buick and it is a an interesting process how much work goes into producing a brochure and print advertising.

    Most Saab websites in other countries also have a cleaner and nicer design as well but that’s besides the point here. The USA is so much different from other markets and I think the Born from Jets campaign fits in very good.

    I just received a request on to send someone a 2008 brochure and more info on dimensions. 🙂

  7. I’m confused.. on the “Equipment and Options” page it specifies that the 2.0T has a wood-effect trim.. but if you look at the interior picture on the 2.0T page, it shows the metallic effect trim similar to the Aero.

    I do like how the semi-aniline leather sport seats can be ordered on the 2.0T. It was the availability of the sport seats on the 2007 Anniversary edition that I liked so much.

    I like the little changes they’ve made for 2008 (except the lack of bluetooh, ah well).

  8. @Raj Very good point. The models at SOC 2007 were both 2.0Ts and they had the wood trim interior. The metallic strips are also not part of an option package (even though they can be ordered as an accessory from Saab) so did they put the wrong picture in the brochure?

  9. The “16 aircraft engineers” and “aircraft heritage” has been used to its death now. It is starting to sound funny, and that can’t be the idea…?

  10. The one photo of the rear 3/4 view of the gray SportCombi had me confused: so, the tail lamps are red again?? Then I realized that the brake lights were activated in that particular photo. D’oh! So, I assume the tail lamps use LEDs then? And are the turn signals amber? I despise the trend toward red turn signals in some cars…

  11. @Wulf what kind of wood trim did the 2.0T models you saw have? The standard 2007 stuff, the Red Walnut (premium package), or the dark walnut (anniversary package)?
