Pollhattan Saab – sort of

Relax, just testing out a new polling system here…..

Did it work?

If so, you should see the poll results and they’ll appear every time you refresh or return to the page. It only allows one vote per 365 days on any given poll, hence the results showing each time once you’ve placed your vote.

One curious thing I’ve noted when I host polls here – they only attract between 200 and 300 votes. My stats package tells me there’s around 4,000 individual visitors per day, and around half of these are return visitors, so they’re probably accessing the front page. Why not click a button in a poll? It’s not logging you or picking up any info. It’s just recording your vote.

Anyway, from my brief look, it appears it’s working. I don’t do polls very often, but it’s nice to have a facility that works.

  1. Yeah, the poll works OK. With the comments I was trying a new previewing system, but that doesn’t seem to be working at all. Bringing up errors and losing a sidebar. Not good.

  2. I wonder how many of those 4,000 individual readers of the site are from Saab corporate and/or GM? I know that quite a few Saab USA execs frequent the site in “lurker” mode, as well as a few Saab Sweden execs.

I wonder how hard it is to restrain themselves from commenting on something they read here. It would be excruciating for me to read some kind of criticism I know not to be true, but not be able to correct you on it! Not that you’re ever wrong about anything though. 😉

As for your live preview issues, that explains why a comment I made just disappeared a few hours ago. As with most of my stuff it wasn’t really all that important anyway, just my overactive mind… 😉

Another thing I noticed: when I use Firefox on my OS X at home the site looks great. When I’m forced to use my Dell Windows XP laptop with Internet Exploder 6 when I’m on the road working for some reason the right side pane starts at the end of the page below all the posts instead of right up at the top. I don’t know if this is a problem with IE6, or if it’s just something funky with my configuration. One thing I do know though is that I have to scroll way down to the bottom of the page to look at the “recent comments” section, which is annoying. Much nicer on Mac/Firefox, IMHO.

  3. Actually, you comment went through to the spam queue, Gripen. Now published.

And yes, the fonts render a lot better on the Mac. Hadn’t heard of the sidebar issue, though. Could be an IE6 thing.

  4. I think it looks best on Safari on OS X. Never use Firefox because I think it’s a horrible application, but have it installed anyway… 🙂

  5. On my SonyEricsson P990 (company phone) this site look ok but in three different columns. But the phone is not showing them side by side but on top of each other.
On my private phone, a Nokia N95, this site look better but on this phone I havn’t got the pointing screen.
So my choosing is the p990 when surfing to this site and a real computer isn’t an option.

  6. Oh, and to add to Vector’s comments, the site is tolerable on my Blackberry. Instead of three columns across, it stacks the columns left-center-right. Therefore, I must scroll past the left column to reach the primary posts.
