US pricing – 2008 leasing details posted at Saab USA

As denvernewbie’s has just pointed out to me via email, it seems that the 2008 Saab 9-3 is lease-only in terms offers right now and the 2007 models are purchase-only.

I’ve got to chase up the document again, but I’m pretty sure I’ve got something that states a $2,500 incentive for the 2008 Saab 9-3. But I’ll need to get through a bunch of emails to find it. I think it’s probably being held off to clear 2007 stocks.

So…..

  1. Does anyone know what the allotment of miles given for Saab leases in the U.S. is? My dad was telling me he doesn’t lease cars anymore because they used to give you 12K miles a year and after that you have to pay some extremely high penalties per mile, making leasing less attractive than it would seem at first.

He tells me that now some car makes have dropped the allotment down to 10K miles per year. I guess it depends on the region where you live, but Angelenos (people living in the Greater Los Angeles Area) drive much more than even 12K miles per year on average. In order to find affordable housing, most people have to live far out in the suburbs and commute quite far to work each day.

  2. I did not mention for those that do not want to follow the link .. there is $2,500 on the hood of the 2008 93

BTW … link is now hot

  3. Grip, I’ve read on the Saab USA site that a standard 27-month lease offers 27k miles, with a charge of $0.20 per mile overage, but that’s an example. You can choose a 12k or 15k mile yearly allowance.

  4. Thanks, Nevitz. When you choose a 12K or 15K mile yearly allowance do they just charge you more each month for the 15K allowance?

  5. Try this link.

Hope that helps. But, from what I see, as you adjust the mileage in the calculator, the payment fluctuates. Seems in ballpark of $10-15 monthly, but see what you get from it too. I’m sure each model differs slightly.

  6. If they are only offering lease incentives on 2008’s, it means that they expect 2007 residuals to be significantly worse than 2008’s.
Something to think about if you are considering buying a 2007.

  7. Folks … there is not just lease deals. There is $2,500 cash as well … it just happens to be dealer cash which means you will have to work for it.

Also the terms of the lease on the SaabUSA website indicate it is a 27 month/27,000 mile lease to quote:

“Customer is liable for a mileage charge of $.20 per mile over 27,000 miles and for excess wear and tear”

  8. @joemama
The MY08 is $2000 – $2600 more expensive, making the 2007s an exceptional deal.

    @1985 Gripen
$0.20 extra per mile is not a bad deal at all. Take 27 payments x $312 = $8424. Add $2700 in start-up costs (excl 1st month payment) and you are at $11,124. Divide by total allowed miles of 27,000 so the first 27K miles will cost you $0.41 per mile. $0.20 for extra miles is a bargain. The more you drive, the more you save! ๐Ÿ™‚ I think most drivers have no idea how much their car costs per mile. Add in insurance and fuel and you’re at $0.60 per mile when you lease a new Saab 9-3..

  9. One reason for the price increase is Onstar comes standard now so you’re are forced to get this $700 2007 option if you like it or not. Thanks Saab USA!
