Saab Day Trip

Drive RouteToday a few of the local Saab nuts got together for a drive. There was only three cars – Drew B, Saabill and I – but it was a brilliant afternoon. We were joined by Brendan B, NSW chairman of the Saab Car Club of Australia and part-time Swedish tourist.

If you ever come and visit Tassie, here’s your route for an absolute cracker of an afternoon drive. Click to enlarge. There’s views aplenty as you saunter along through the foothills of Mt Wellington and along the river. None of the views in these photos, though, except those that were there where we parked the cars.

Click on any of the photos to enlarge. There’s a feature on the yellow Saab 95 coming soon.

Drew B on the road between Cygnet and Woodbridge. The numberplate SB-0095 came with the car. My old 99T (which now belongs to Saabill) has the plate SB-0099.

Saab 95

For the record, that’s a 1973 Saab 95 V4, a 1985 Saab 900 Aero and a 1993 Saab 900 Turbo.

Bill’s 900 has a brilliant silver set of minilites on it, complete with Saab stamping on the outer rim. The car’s got a biscuit leather interior and a genuine redbox installed. Vrmm Vrmm.

  1. Was a great afternoon indeed.

The map shows the wrong route, though, becasue we actually stayed on the B68 down through Deep Bay and back up through Birchs Bay and Woodbridge.

  2. I was wondering about that as I took a second look at it. I’ll go and amend – Now fixed – SW

You’re a bit late logging on, too, DB. While I was getting the photos all formatted, etc, I had just one photo up on site – your butt hanging out the car while you picked up your radio button πŸ™‚

  3. Ok a drive like that is MADE for a Saab Turbo. Contact the Tasmanian governmental highways department to rename it “S. Wade Highway”. I bet you all had a complete blast on that day out!

  4. I was going to tout how the 95 wagon was a 7 passenger wagon until I saw swade practically pasted to the rear window. That should at least cause tailgaters to back off a little! πŸ™‚
