Saab 9-3 Aero with XWD – in April 2008 – in Belgium

Great spotting by Ian here. It would seem that Saab of Belgium (land of Mrs Swade’s birth!) might have broken some ice on XWD availability in models other than the Saab Turbo X. I’ve grabbed a screenshot of the page, where you can clearly see it’s an Aero model with XWD and 280hp, available around April of 2008 for a price of 42,450 Euro. No mention of Turbo X in the description and it’s listed as a variant in the Aero ‘form’. What this will mean for other markets is as-yet unknown, but it’s nice to see someone letting some […]

The 9-3 color poll on show….

I did a poll a week or so ago on the favoured colours for the 2008 Saab 9-3. The results were pretty clear, with Jet Black Metallic winning clearly and Snow Silver coming a solid second, Solid Black third and Titan Grey fourth. This almost monochromatic result seems to be bearing out at the dealers, too. EduSaab spent a little time at his local dealership recently and here’s the stock out back…. That’s a lot of black, huh? EduSaab was checking out the TTiD models that had just arrived there, and snapped a few pics of those, too, for those […]

Will Saab get integrated Bluetooth in the US in 2009?

It’s been an ongoing issue here at Trollhattan Saab – trying to sort out the mess that GM’s passion for OnStar and the lack of Bluetooth availability. If I had my wits about me last night I would have included it in the Top 9 things that I hope Christmas will help me forget. Saab isn’t able to offer Bluetooth in the US. The official reason is because it’s not compatible with OnStar. This is spin. The real reason is because GM have some agreement with a phone company to supply phone minutes via OnStar. Therefore, if you want to […]

First Australian 2008 Saab 9-3 delivery

OK, much like my first Aussie 2008 BioPower sale story, the claim in the headline may not actually be completely accurate – but it IS the first delivery I’ve heard about here in Australia. Added to that, a few of the photos (that I won’t be showing here) will make a killer POO competition entry. Our happy customer is Tony R, though it must be said that it’s a bittersweet happiness. The car, as you’ll see, is fantastic. It’s the road Tony had to travel to get it that leaves a bit to be desired. This is a long story, […]

TTiD section added at Saab.com

Saab’s international site now has a section added for the TTiD model. There’s some details there about how the technology works, technical specs, a video from Knut Simonsson on “pure power” and as always, some great Saab imagery. It’s a pretty brief affair but if you’re hanging out for a TTiD then it’ll keep you occupied for a little while. There’s nothing like driving one, though. 100 Nm of torque per cylinder. It’s an experience. Thanks Jamie!

Saab Oz get “Lux” to replace “Sport”

I was just taking a look over the Saab Australia site to get some images for something I’m planning, when I noticed this in the Saab 9-3 range. Where it says “Vector Lux” there, it used to say “Vector Sport”. Without the old spec sheet here I can’t tell how much it varies, whether it’s a luxury pack or just a re-naming. The hard part, and the reason why it’s a surprising development worthy of noting here, is that there was nothing mentioned about this at the Australian release, nor is there anything in the press material at GM Media […]

2008 Saab 9-3 road test at Driving.ca

They call it driving.ca in the title image but the web address is autos.canada.com and the article appeared in a paper called the Times. This web syndication business is enough to make your head spin! But that’s no reason to ignore this road test of the 2008 Saab 9-3 Aero. I’d take a guess and say that it’s been written by someone new to Saabs, and when this happens the writeup is usually written with other ‘Noobies’ in mind. Sometimes it’s best to get back to basics and experience that initial appreciation all over again: Saab’s current advertising tagline is […]

Poll results: So What IS the best color for the Saab 9-3?

The vote is in. With nearly 500 votes counted, the winner has been decided. Saab – be advised – you’re going to need some more black paint. Not only is there growing demand for people to buy remakes of UrSaab in the future, but the most popular color for the 2008 Saab 9-3 is Jet Black Metallic! It seems that with the new 2008 trim, bling is definitely in. And maybe there’s a subconscious desire with some to camouflage the mascara effect on the rear lenses. Whatever it is, Jet Black certainly dominated proceedings, taking nearly 25% of the vote. […]

Another Saab XWD video

I’ve had a couple of links come through via email to this video overnight. Thanks to all who sent them through. You’ve all probably seen the video I shot with Kenneth Backlund from the Saab Performance Team at the 9-3 launch event in Sweden back in June. This new video was also shot at the same event, using the same car(s) and on the exact same track. The great thing about this video is that they must have had heaps of cameras there because there’s a lot of external shots as the car progresses around the track. Enjoy.
